No Go Daddy
Before I tell you why I’m transferring all my web domains from GoDaddy.com and cutting all ties with them, let me give you a little back ground.
I admit to a bad habit. I’m a wee bit addicted to watching TV.
Especially when I’m on the road doing hypnosis weight loss and Stop Smoking seminars in far flung cities. I often find myself flipping through the channels of the TV in the hotel room as a way of unwinding after the event.
A couple of months ago I was in Muskegon, Michigan in precisely this circumstance and my channel surfing brought me to a station I never watch. It was a hunting program.
Now I’m not a big fan of hunting but I’m not a strict opponent of it either. I am aware of the need for it for culling the herd and also, of course, that some people rely on it for food. (I actually have no problem with it at all if it really is about that, but I’ve always found it a bit weird that some people enjoying killing for the fun of it.)
The show I stumbled upon, however, horrified me. It’s title was something like “Dangerous Game” and was all about hunting big animals like Lions, Water Buffalo and Bears. Seriously. They do that.
The particular episode I watched showed these stupid men tracking down a magnificent Bull Elephant, sneaking up on it and shooting it. I couldn’t believe it. It was like watching a horror movie where you shout at the person on the screen, “Look out! Behind you!”
I kept hoping the elephant would hear the little cowards and run away. But to my horror the guy got to within striking distance and shot the poor thing right behind the ear, where the paid guide was telling him to aim.
Then, happy with his big accomplishment, they got in their jeep and drove away.
That’s right, there was nothing about elephant burgers for the village.
I was so outraged I wrote letters of complaint to the sponsor of the show, to congressmen and any one else I could think of. I don’t think it helped much.
Then I went on line to find a clip of it and discovered that these idiots weren’t alone. The CEO of GoDaddy.com, had done exactly the same thing. He had also video taped it and put it up on his web site for the world to see.
Here’ a link to see it for yourself if you want to. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/31/bob-parsons-godaddy-ceo-elephant-hunt_n_843121.html
Well again, I’m sure my little one-person protest won’t effect Bob Parson’s bottom line very much, but I cannot, in good conscience, support such small minded idiocy with my commerce. I am TRANSFERRING ALL my web domain registrations away from GoDaddy to my web host.
NameCheap.com is also a good alternative choice if you want to transfer your domains too. It works just as well as Godaddy for getting new domain names and is easily as inexpensive.
